Some riders may be a little rusty and motorists may have forgotten about us over the winter, so it\u2019s especially important to be vigilant and cautious at the start of the riding season.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While you already know the safety rhetoric, it\u2019s important to remind motorists and new bikers of the dangers that we face on our rides. One way to create awareness is to find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=motorcycle%20safety%20events%20united%20states\" target=\"_blank\">motorcycle safety events in your area<\/a>. There are events that promote awareness for motorists and others that help hone special skills for bikers. Even seasoned riders can use a little refresher sometimes. Do you remember all the pointers you learned in your driver\u2019s test? Of course not, so here goes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16342\" src=\"https:\/\/www.imtbike.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/check-tire-pressures-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"check-tire-pressures\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.imtbike.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/check-tire-pressures-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.imtbike.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/check-tire-pressures-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.imtbike.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/check-tire-pressures.jpg 602w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>At the start of the season, be especially careful to leave space between you and other vehicles on the road so you can take evasive action if you need to\u2014motorists may be out of the habit of keeping an eye open for bikers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Double check those mirrors for the same reason, especially at intersections. Drivers will be focusing on making turns or lights and may not notice you. Better still, don&#8217;t just rely on your mirrors, do your shoulder checks too.<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">Check your tire pressures. This can have a significant affect on the performance of your bike. You can\u00a0find optimal tire pressure settings in your\u00a0motorcycle manual, or\u00a0simply Google it.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Wear your gear all the time! Your gear is there to protect you, even if it&#8217;s damn hot.<\/li>\n<li>We don\u2019t need to say don\u2019t drink and drive (or take drugs) but we are going to say it anyway. Your response time and balance are negatively affected by drugs and alcohol.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the start of the season, be especially careful, keep your eyes open and help newer riders who may not be as experienced as you are.
